Otoplasty

Otoplasty is a surgical procedure aimed at correcting protruding or misshapen ears, creating a more balanced and harmonious symmetrical appearance. The procedure aims to create a more defined fold in the central part of the ear by reshaping the cartilage. This involves removing skin from behind the ear and either folding or removing a portion of the cartilage to allow the ear to naturally contour closer to the side of the head. Several surgical approaches can be used, and Dr Preketes will guide you in selecting the technique best suited to your needs.

FAQs

Is there a Medicare rebate available?

Otoplasty may be eligible for a Medicare Rebate if you are under 18 years of age. For persons 18 years and over, Otoplasty is classified as Cosmetic, therefore all associated fees are payable by the patient.

Can I undergo Otoplasty with other surgeries at the same time?

In many cases, it is possible to undergo multiple cosmetic procedures at the same time depending on the other treatment and your surgeon’s recommendation. Combining procedures can reduce overall recovery time and minimise anaesthesia sessions.

How much down time is needed?

After a Otoplasty, downtime is usually around 2 weeks, during which most swelling and bruising will subside. Full recovery typically takes 4 to 6 weeks.

What are the risks?

All surgery carries potential risks and complications such as infection, scarring, and allergic reactions. Choosing an experienced surgeon and discussing potential risks can help minimise these concerns. For a more extensive list of Risks and Complications that relate to Breast Augmentation, please see our Patient Resources.

Is the procedure painful?

While surgery itself is not painful due to anaesthesia, there may be some discomfort during the recovery process. Pain levels vary depending on the procedure, but Dr Preketes will provide pain management options to help minimise discomfort during healing.
